Your Next Shift Book Review
I was fortunate enough to review the book Your Next Shift by Elizabeth Scala before it was released to the public. Now, I have the opportunity to share with you in more detail my thoughts about her book as it is now available. http://bit.ly/ESCALA. Elizabeth was a psychiatric nurse who, like many of us, experienced stress and burnout on the job. This book is her journey of how she rose above her frustration and the tools she learned on her journey to becoming an entrepreneur and how these tools apply to nursing practice whether it be at the bedside or not. Elizabeth’s book is very much in alignment with that of Empowered Nurses so I am pleased to recommend it.
The journey to becoming an entrepreneur is like a roller coaster with its ups and downs, the same is true in nursing or anything else that is worth pursuing. Elizabeth shares her journey with such vulnerability that you actually feel like you are there with her. She talks about her experiences of rejection which all of us can relate to but then discusses that many of the things we think are not actually real. We see the world based on our mindset. She teaches us how to think like a successful nurse. Using the tools described in the book can help you get clarity around problems that occurred in the past and how to avoid them in the future.
I think this is the only book for nurses that talk about the laws of the universe and how we can apply them to our daily practice. Just like the law of gravity, objects fall to earth when you drop them 100% of the time. (Ok not helium balloons or paper but they eventually fall!). The laws of the universe work 100% of the time but we need to know the laws and how to use them for the laws to work. Elizabeth brilliantly adapts the universal laws to the practice of nursing. I can only imagine if nurses applied these universal laws to their practice, the profound effect it would have on patient care.
We can learn from leaders like Elizabeth who have paved the road for other nurses to succeed. Whether you want to advance in your career as a nurse or become an entrepreneur, these tools work because, of course, they are based on universal laws! By embracing the principles in this book, any nurse can create the job they love and be fulfilled in their practice. http://bit.ly/ESCALA
