IT’S YOUR LIFE
While I was sitting there watching my son Jordan play baseball, I couldn’t help but think how baseball is such an analogy for the game of life and your career.
In your career, are you sitting on the bench waiting to be called in? If you are on the bench, what steps can you take to be a better ballplayer or team member to get called in? What are you considering as you look for a job while parked on that bench?
One thing is certain, if you don’t take action, you will not find a job. What can you do to prepare yourself so you can be the first person called off the bench?
When you get to the plate to bat, are you going to play it safe and hope that the balls will be thrown badly so that you can walk? Or are you playing full out and hitting home runs?
Life is not without risks. When we are born, we eventually find the only thing in life that is certain is death. Are we playing our life and our career to the fullest? Are we hitting home runs? Or, are we playing it safe?
If we are not hitting home runs … why? What is holding you back from working in your career and being fulfilled to the max?
Many in nursing play it safe because of fear. We’re afraid that if we speak up or make waves, we can be written up or fired.
In baseball, if everyone played to be safe, it would be a pretty boring game! The excitement and fun in life is living it to the fullest. So, what can you do to be fully self-expressed, take risks in a positive way and play your career and/or life to the fullest and play to win?
Happy nursing!
