Empowering Nurses at the Bedside and in Business

Lack Or Abundance

Sometimes in nursing all we seem to be able to focus on is “lack.” Lack of staff, lack of time, lack of equipment and so on. In reality, the world has an abundance of everything. There is more than enough water and more than enough food.

Perhaps you know of “Parkinson’s Law” which says that work expands to fill the amount of time available for its completion. In other words, things take as much as you give it. Did you ever wonder when you are doing some things how time seems to fly while at other times, when you’re doing the same things, it seems to take forever?

You will see a huge difference in your practice if you look at the world in terms of abundance rather than focusing on the lack. Using the simple mindset shift of thinking that you will have all the time you need to complete your assignment. This thinking will lighten what otherwise might feel like a burden to you.

Rather than focusing on thoughts like not enough staff or not enough supplies, focus instead on the thought that you have everything you need to get the job done.

The world appears better when you look at it from an abundance mindset. Happy abundance and happy nursing!
