A New Year, A New You
Every January 1st, millions of people create New Year Resolutions. And while some never act upon them, others lose interest shortly thereafter. The reason why many people fail to accomplish their New Year Resolutions is because willpower will get you only so far. You can’t will your way to be successful, you can’t will your way to be rich, you can’t will your way to health and you can’t will your way to be thin.
So, if willpower doesn’t work, then what does?
We all have internal programming that our thoughts create our beliefs, our beliefs create our actions and our actions create our results which, in turn, creates our thoughts. We keep going around in this cycle creating the same thoughts over and over again, all leading to the same results. So, we have to interrupt this pattern and change the thoughts.
The thoughts may be conscious or unconscious. If they’re unconscious, some work needs to be done to bring them to the surface. If they’re conscious, then we need to catch ourselves with those negative thoughts and replace them with more empowering thoughts. We need to create a vision of what our lives would be like if we were to act as if that resolution is true.
The vision must be so powerful that it will get us up in the morning and inspire us to take action. To me, losing weight is not inspiring. And, to be honest, I have yet to come up with a bigger vision that will get me out of bed and being excited enough to eating healthy every day.
However, with Empowered Nurses, my vision of creating a new culture for nurses so they can be valued and respected in the workplace does get me out of bed in the morning, causing me to write more and inspire you to take action in your life to carry Empowered Nurses message so that those in our profession can have the power to speak their minds, stand in their power and be change agents to improve patient care.
What is your vision? Are you passionate about moving our profession forward? Or do you just want to do your job and go home?
Either way it is okay.
What are your resolutions and what visions are going to get you out of bed in the morning to make your resolutions come true? How are you going to be conscious of thoughts that don’t serve you and replace them with more empowering thoughts?
Heres to an awesome New Year!
